- Anyone can pick up the rhythm with a little try, try again.
- Hooping brings out the child in us!
Tips
- Once you get the rhythm, try standing in different positions and heights while hooping around your waist. Example- one foot in front of the other, bent knees, etc.
- Experiment with turning the same way the hoop is spinning
- After trying different stances, try walking while hooping, one step at a time, forwards and backwards
- If the hoop starts to fall, moving faster tends to make it come back up or you could try dipping down suddenly to catch it back on your waist. Also spinning with it can help keep it on your waist.
- To Hoop with your hands, start off holding the hoop in one hand as you spin around lift it above your head and let go of your grip as you slip you fingers into the hoop, keeping the hoop on your fingers, above your thumb and at a good speed so it doesn't fall. Then slip your other hand in prayer-like next to the starting hand, keeping the thumbs out and then pull the original hand out to work both arms. This move works the entire arm and shoulder.
- For a different arm and hand move try hooping with it out on your hand in front of you, spinning perpendicular to the ground. You have to give it a good starting toss to get it going. (Make sure you practice the hand moves a good distance from other people and objects, it's easy for the hoops to slip off in the beginning and go flying! So practice with caution!
- With it spinning in front, turn your body so it's spinning on your side. Switch arms.
- Hoop at different speeds. The slower you go, the more exact you have to move with the hoop, the more agile and graceful you become. When going faster, you get stronger and burn more calories.
- Explore! Be creative! There's countless things to do with the hoop and it's fun to discover new moves on your own. Let me know what you come up with. I'll post more moves on too as they come. Happy Hooping!
